EAN-13 or Code 128?
EAN-13 is the one used on products in supermarkets (13 digits). Code 128 accepts letters and numbers: it's for internal inventory, warehouses and shipping.
Can I make up an EAN-13 to sell in supermarkets?
No. To sell in retail chains you need codes assigned by GS1 in your country. Made-up codes are only for internal use.
What is the check digit?
The last digit of the EAN-13. If you type 12 digits, it is calculated automatically; if you type 13, it is checked.
