Compress PDF
Reduce the size of a PDF to send it by email or upload it to a portal that asks for less than 1, 2 or 5 MB.
Free · no sign-up required · works on your phone · without uploading your PDF
It is processed on your device, not on our servers: your files are not uploaded to the internet. With large files it may take a while and your device may run slower while it works; don't close this tab until it finishes.

Looks good on screen and in normal printing. For most paperwork.
How does it reduce the size?
Almost all the weight of a PDF is in its photos. The tool saves them again with MozJPEG (the same compressor as Google Squoosh) and shrinks those that are larger than needed. The text, links and layout stay the same, and the text can still be copied.
If the PDF is a scan (each page is a photo), “Convert pages to images” is best: that gives the smallest size. With “Black and white”, a scanned text document usually ends up under 100 KB per page.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to the internet?
No. Everything is done on your phone or computer; the file never leaves your device.
How do I get a PDF under 2 MB for an online form?
Turn on “Make it smaller than…” and choose 2 MB. The tool tries from the gentlest compression to the strongest until it fits.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
Because it has almost no photos (only text) or it was already compressed. If it's a scan, turn on “Convert pages to images”.
Is the electronic signature lost?
Yes: any change to an electronically signed PDF invalidates the signature. Compress first and sign afterwards.
How many PDFs can I compress?
As many as you want: it's free with no daily limit, with or without an account.
