Turn a photo or a scan into text
Get the text from photos and scanned PDFs to copy it, edit it in Word or search inside the PDF.
Free · no sign-up required · works on your phone · without uploading your files
It is processed on your device, not on our servers: your files are not uploaded to the internet. With large files it may take a while and your device may run slower while it works; don't close this tab until it finishes.

How does it work?
Text recognition (OCR) runs on your device with PP-OCRv5, an open text recognition model that reads accented letters, numbers and symbols, even in photos taken with your phone. It reads each page, and you can correct the result before saving it. The “searchable PDF” looks the same as the scan, but carries the text underneath: you can search for words and copy them.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is it?
With printed, sharp and straight text, almost perfect. With blurry photos, shadows or handwriting it drops a lot. Always check numbers and names.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your device. The first time, about 13 MB are downloaded with the text reader.
How many pages can I read?
As many as you want: it's free with no daily limit, with or without an account.
My PDF already has text, does it work?
Yes: the text is taken directly, without OCR, and comes out exact.
